Abstract:

We develop the Kaluza-Klein program from scratch, assuming no prior knowledge of supergravity. We specialize to the compactification of 11-dimensional supergravity on S₄ to 7-dimensional anti de Sitter supergravity. We discuss the general theory of spherical harmonics on coset manifolds, and end with the full nonlinear dimensional reduction.
